3 to 15 days kayak, canoe or pontoon tourTour Description
Day 1: We
will leave Ulaan Baatar and drive to the foothills of the
Khogno Khan Mountains. It is an impressive massif in the
open steppes. Not far from here runs the Tasarkhai Els, a
100 km long sand dune.
Day 2: After
breakfast, we will start driving more westwards in the
direction of Kharkhorin (also named Karakorin), site of the
13th century capital of the Mongolian Empire created by
Chinggis Khan. Very little is left from this legendary
city. In the 16th century, Mongolia's biggest Monastery was
build from the ruins of Kharkhorin. Now Erdene Zuu
Monastery is all that remains of what once was a huge
monastery of 100 temples and about 1.000 lamas residencing
there. Day 3: After a good Mongolian breakfast we will put our boats on the Orkhon River. We will star kayaking and canoeing down the Orhon River. (Tented Camp, B, L, D) Day 4 to day 11: We will kayak or canoe the Orkhon River down until the Selenge River. We will camp along the river, visit families, drink kumis (fermented mare's milk) and discover the stunning Mongolia countryside landscapes. (Tented Camp, B, L, D) Day 12: Today we will pack the canoes or kayaks and drive to Amarbayasgalant Monastery. The monastery is set in an exquisite valley surrounded by mountains. After Erdene Zuu Monastery, Amarbayasgalant Monastery is considered as the second most important monastery and the most intact architectural complex of Mongolia. The monastery was built in the 18th century by the Manchu emperor Yongzheng and dedicated to the great Mongolian Buddhist Zanabazar. (Ger Camp, B, L, D) Day 13: After a quiet night in our ger camp close to Amarbayasgalant Monastery, we will depart for Ulaanbaatar. (Hotel, B, L) Day 14: Free day in Ulaanbaatar (Hotel, B) Day 15: Departure Group sizeWe believe that smaller groups are more convenient for both, the traveller and the cultural environment. The group size will be between 2 and 6 people. Pricing

DelaysWe are not responsible for any additional charges incurred arising from the delay or extension of a trip due to weather, equipment failure, illness, or other causes beyond our control. No refunds can be made for any unused services or accommodations on the trip. We are not responsible for the change of flight shuttle of national or international air companies. Flights are often delayed or cancelled. AccommodationIn Ulaanbaatar you will be accommodated in a comfortable hotel. The hotel is centrally located, in walking distances from shops and museums. While in the countryside, depending on the trip you choose, you will overnight in Ger Camps or Tented Camp. Gers from Ger Camp are the traditional felt tents of nomadic herders. Each ger is furnished with a wood stove and beautifully painted furniture such as beds, a table and stools. Gers are based on double occupancy. Each ger camp has its restaurant, western style toilet and hot water showers. Most visitors find their stay in gers, which provide an authentic taste of Mongolian culture and adventure, their most enjoyable experience in Mongolia. Tented Camp is a camp build on a nice spot. The travellers will sleep in Western style tents. We will however do our best to offer you the best available service. We pride ourselves on the level of comfort we provide while camping in these remote areas, but camping is not for everyone. It is important to remain open-minded and physically willing. RemarkMongolia is a developing country in terms of infrastructure. The standard of the roads is very low, with no tarmac outside the capital. As a result be prepared for bumpy and dusty rides. Travelling in a seldom-explored country, with very little infrastructure requires flexibility, tolerance, a spirit of adventure and respect and understanding for cultural differences. The trip itinerary is subject to changes due to weather, trail conditions, government restrictions, or other reasons beyond our control. We will however do every attempt to adhere to the given schedule. Due to the recent climate change Mongolian rivers tend to have less and less water. Heavy rains on the other hand can bring the water level of river to critical point. We are not responsible for the navigability of the river. If at the time of booking, the river sounds navigable, it might be different when you kayak or canoeing trip starts. Before leaving on your kayak or canoeing tour, we will check the navigability of the rivers. If the river you planned to navigate has critical water levels, we will allow you to change your tour. Part of some rivers will not be accessible by a vehicle. Expect to spend a night in a Mongolian family while the vehicle with all your personal belongings will reach you only next day. You'll most probably sleep on the ground, covered by a deel (Mongolian traditional dress). Visa RequirementsYou will need a passport with at least 6 months remaining validity, together with a Mongolian visa. The rates for the visa vary depending on your nationality. It was possible to obtain visas on arrival at Ulaanbaatar airport, but it is not the case any more. At the time of writing citizens of the Unites States of America do not need a visa. Please contact a Mongolian embassy to confirm.
